I'm still on a Paper Smooches kick and here's my latest creation using the bird from Chubby Chums. I saw Chari Moss' video on mirror stamping and tried it with these birds. So fun to do and it gives you more options with your stamps. If you're in Hilo, check out Island Scrapbooking for a great variety of die cut words like the "hugs & kisses" I used here. They're a nice alternative to stamping sentiments.

I have a new love....and it's for Paper Smooches! These stamps make me smile from ear to ear and are so fun to play with. I found that keeping the card simple makes the images stand out better and here's a card featuring"Fruitastic."

For today's card I used Miyako and this time I used a non-Valentine sentiment. I also made (for the first time) some decorative stick pins. I would have been happy to buy some but none of the local craft stores had any. The sentiment I used is from an SU set called "Lighthearted" and I thought it went nicely with the image.

Hello there! Are you ready for the weekend? I know I sure am! Here we are on the last day of Sister Stamps release #5 and today I'm featuring Keitaro. I needed a Valentine's banner to decorate the wall above my entertainment center so that was the real inspiration for this project. And do you know, we have this really nice entertainment center that has no TV or electronics in it anymore, but I can't get rid of it. I love it because I set my picture frames and holiday decorations on it all year round. I should have someone build some nice shelves in it so it becomes more functional.

Anyway, I used Spellbinders' Pennant dies (love them) and punched 2-1/2" circles as the background for the alphabets. I held off from buying these banner dies when they first came out, but I've made good use of them since I got them. I connected the pennants with brads this time to make it easier to fold up and store, but in the past, I've also tied them together with ribbon.

Sister Stamps Release #5 - Miyako

Welcome to another day of Sister Stamps release and today I am featuring the ever so cute Miyako! I recently found a lot of different heart confetti as I cleaned out one of my drawers so it prompted me to create this Valentine shaker card. I used to be intimidated by shakers and thought they were hard to do. But after much trial and error, I found them to be simple to make with the following tricks:

1. Rub the acetate with a used dryer sheet to remove static so the confetti "shakes" and doesn't stick to the acetate.
2. With a small brush, lightly "paint" some cornstarch or baby powder on the sides of your mounting tape so the confetti and micro beads don't stick to it.
3. I found 3M Scotch brand mounting tape works best. I buy the roll and cut it in strips to fit my window.

Sister Stamps Release #5 - Yoshimi

Welcome to Sister Stamps Release #5 and the first release of 2012! Jenny and her sister have some cute new images for you and first up is precious Yoshimi. I believe she was conceived with Girl's Day in mind, but I think she can be used for many other occasions. I created this gift bag using PTI's Front & Center #1 die and it nicely coordinates with an ordinary brown lunch bag. This makes a nice size gift bag and it's especially nice if you want to include some bigger goodies. I stamped a sentiment from Dandelion Designs and embellished it with cherry blossoms to match the washi paper.

PTI Make It Monday: Creating Backgrounds with Border Dies

I look forward to learning new things from PTI's Make It Monday videos every Monday and this week, I decided to take the challenge. The project needed to include at least one PTI product and feature a border die to make a background. I used the Eyelet Lace Border Die and cut strips in yellow, red and turquoise. I adhered them in an alternating fashion so they interlocked together. I inked up the monkey, lollipop and sentiment from a Dandelion Designs cling set called "So Sweet" and colored the images with Copics. I added some "sugar" to the lollipop with Stickles and also used some in alternating holes of the lace border for additional bling.

Sometimes taking challenges pushes me to do things I normally may not have thought of. New Year's resolution #27: Try New Things - check!

I'm back! I hope you had a nice holiday season. We had the usual Christmas madness around here followed by all the New Year's activities. It's always exhausting but I wouldn't have it any other way! I wish all of you a health, happiness and lots of time to craft in 2012!

My card today is a simple one to celebrate the new year. I'd been eyeing these stamps from Paper Smooches for awhile and I'm thrilled with them. As you can see, they are simply adorable!

Ribbon Pleating

Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you're finding time to enjoy the holidays among the frenzy that comes with this time of year.

Today's card was inspired by a PTI "Make it Monday" tutorial done by the talented Dawn McVey. It was a little tricky to get the pleating even at first, but once you get the hang of it, it isn't so bad.

This is going to short and sweet because I've got a lot more holiday stuff to get done.

Holiday Door Decor

I was on the Christmas party committee for a women's group I belong to and I made the favors for our event. I've been wanting to make felt door hangers for a while and finally decided to give them a try. I created a couple different prototypes and the committee liked this version so I made about 25. As most crafts go, they took a lot longer to mass produce than expected, but I got them done in time for the party.

The red background and tree are cut from felt. I cut the pine tree using a die from PTI's set called In the Meadow. For the circle at the top, I ironed Heat n' Bond to Christmas fabric and run it though the Big Shot. It was a challenge finding the right glue to adhere everything, but in the end Fabri-Tac worked best.

Hoo Hoo, It' a Baby Shower!

My friend Shannon lives in L.A. and she's expecting her first baby sometime this month. Her sister Kelli threw her a shower and since I couldn't be there, I offered to help with the favors. Kelli had this cute idea to put blue Jordan almonds in bird's nests (I love this idea!) so I offered to make tags for them. I obviously wanted some kind of bird themed tag and since I knew owls have a special meaning to the sisters (their grandmother used to collect them) I created this tag using SU's owl punch. Above is a close up of the tag and below the finished favor. Fun and sweet!

Hope you're surviving the holidays! It's crazy busy in our household, but I'm taking it all in and love seeing it through the eyes of a child!

Winter Thanks

I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving weekend! I had my fill of turkey and pumpkin pie and I'm ready to move on to Christmas! Did you fight the crowds on Black Friday? I got some great deals online! Shopping-mania has begun! We got our tree today and started decorating tonight. It's a joy watching our 3-year-old start to understand what Christmas is all about. The look on his face while watching the tree lights go on for the first time was priceless! It's going to be a fun Christmas!

Now on with my card. I've been playing around with this new PTI set called In the Meadow and it's especially great for making cards for guys. I created this thank you card and loved it so much that I made tags as well.

Advent Calendar That Makes Me Smile

I got this advent calendar tree from Ben Franklin this weekend and started working on it right away. Odd thing is it only has 24 boxes. I thought most advent calendars have 25 days. Oh, well, no big deal. I covered the back, sides and fronts of the individual drawers with different patterned paper and Elmer's glue. I used a sponge brush and brushed the glue on to coat the entire paper surface. Brushing the glue evenly gave full coverage on the paper so there was no puckering or paper lifting off. The glue also gave me some wiggle room to manipulate the paper before it dried completely. I think using tape for this would have been a more difficult. I cut out numbers from an old QuicKutz set (thanks Jenny) and glued them on. The embellishments I used are gemstone brads and stickers. I punched a hole in the boxes to secure the brads. I added Tombow Mono Multi Glue (green & white bottle) to the stickers to give them some extra security since the drawers will be opened and closed a lot.

The most time consuming parts of this project were cutting the numbers and figuring out the layout. If you can find number stickers that would probably save you some time. Overall, this project was simple and I was able to complete it in 2 days. I will give this to my 5-year-old twin nieces and hope they have fun counting down to Christmas!

Crazy About Flower Fusion

I am crazy about PTI's Flower Fusion sets because you can make all sorts of background patterns with them. The stamps are only $5 and they also have coordinating dies for only $3. For this card, I just stamped the flower and stems in a repeating pattern for the background. This really makes you play with ink colors vs. trying to match DP and cardstock. I used the Flower Fusion die and paired it with the Sending You stamps and dies for the focal point. Fast and fun!

Birthday Card - Boy Basic Circles

Making cards for men always tests my creativity and here's the latest birthday card I came up with. I used PTI's Boy Basic Simple Circles die and the coordinating stamp set. The circle stamps built a nice background and then I pulled out a bunch of different sets and used their tiny stamps to fill in the centers. For the sentiment, I used PTI's Fillable Frames #6 and a sentiment from Inside & Out Birthday. Simple and fun!

Here's another creation using one of Sister Stamp's Christmas images simply because I couldn't resist this cutie. I tried my Copic pen on some seam binding to match the ribbon to the bag of loot. It was easy and I love how it matches exactly. I found the 1/2" seam binding online and you can order it HERE. I used some Diamond Glaze on the stripes of the "ho ho ho" to make it look more like candy cane.

Sister Stamps Release New Year's - Day 3 Firecrackers

This is day 3 of Sister Stamp's release and the three new images will be available tomorrow. For retail locations, see Sister Stamp's blog. Today's project features a tri-fold New Year's card using the Firecrackers image. I adore this stamp and it sure was fun to color! This is a card I would send in lieu of a Christmas card and sometimes I think it would be nice to send holiday wishes at Thanksgiving or New Year's to avoid the the craziness of Christmas.

Here's what the card looks like when it's unfolded. I used PTI's new tri-fold card (3-1/2" x 5") and these slip nicely into an A2 envelope.

I created a money holder card for the traditional gift giving of Chinese New Years. I did some research and learned the envelope should be red which symbolizes good luck. Gold is often used, too and and represents wealth. I used these colors as the foundation of the card and really loved working with this cute image!

Sister Stamp's New Year's Release - Day 1 Kiyoko

Hi there everyone! Are you excited about the upcoming Sister Stamps release on November 1? This is going to be another fun release and the images are like no others I've seen! Today I'm featuring the playful Kiyoko who is participating in some local New Year's activities with her fun sparklers.

I enjoy decorating our home for various holidays, but I didn't have anything for New Year's so I decided to make a wall hanging. I created it to look like a scroll and cut down a long 3/8" width dowel (5-1/2" pieces) to anchor the top and bottom of the scroll. I found the perfect washi paper for the background and secured the dowels with always reliable Scor-tape. I paper pieced the kimono with washi paper and embossed a bamboo image on the red cardstock (no sure if you can see it in this photo). So happy to have something to ring in the new year!

Creepy Crawly Goodies!

Just a quick Halloween post with some treat boxes using PTI's Treats and Sweets again but this time I coordinated it with the mega dies. I loved mixing and matching the dies and stamps to make all sorts of creatures. Then to fill them up with sweet goodies was just too much fun!

Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere!

Halloween is soon approaching and it's getting exciting around here! I'm not sure if my 3-year-old is really going to wear his costume but he's enjoying all the fun festivities. One of the Halloween books we're reading talks about using a pumpkin to make pumpkin pie so that's what he wants to do. I will happily indulge him with his request, as I love homemade pumpkin pie (however canned pumpkin will be used).

I have a couple projects today using PTI's most adorable Halloween stamp set and dies. I played around with them and made these treat bags holding some of my favorite See's chocolate bars.

I saw this cute card on the fabulous Erin Lincoln's blog and I cased it exactly. I tried to change it around a little and then thought, it's so cute as it, why reinvent the wheel. LOVE!

Bright Sunshiney Day!

I'm having fun with Pure Innocence and like how nicely they stamp. I know these images have been around but I'm finally inking them up. For the sky background, I kept my Spellbinder die on the oval and sponged Stormy Sky Distress ink around the image after it was colored. Keeping the die on created the white border. Not only are these images cute, but the sentiments are different from most and quite sweet. You just can't help but smile!

Today's card features a cute Pure Innocence stamp that is one of my favorites. I kept it clean and simple and let the cute image shine! You can't really tell from photo, but I used a white glitter paper for the snow and I used some white Sparkly Fluff for the pom poms on the snowman's hat and girl's hat. If you haven't tried this, it's like flock with sparkles in it. I've been using it a lot with holiday images.

Birthday Blast-Off

I needed a card for a 5-year-old boy so I went to my PTI stash and cased a Dawn McVey creation. Having coordinating dies for these stamp sets (rocket and moon) are great and sure beats cutting with a scissors. I used Pumice Stone Distress Ink to "gray up" the sky and gold stickers to make it a starry night.

Sister Stamps Christmas Release - Day 3 Shimo-san

My card today features Shimo-san. I loved this image from Denise's first sketches and it has turned out to be such a fun and playful stamp. You'd think it would take long to color, but it's faster and easier than you'd think. The girl and boy aren't very big so not much to color, the scarf and hat are simple to do and only a little shading on the snowman and snow - and the final result...cute, cute, cute!

Sister Stamps Christmas Release - Day 2 Yuki

It's day 2 of Sister Stamps Christmas release and today, my project introduces you to the adorable Yuki. I love this image because it depicts the pure joy a child experiences at Christmas. With Christmas music playing in the background, I was inspired to create a holiday ornament. I used QuicKutz's Nesting Bloom dies and I found I like these dies because the largest die is bigger than most of the standard Spellbinders. Sometimes you want a bigger die for a project and I used the two largest ones for this.

Sister Stamps Christmas Release - Day 1 Setsuna

It's an exciting day as we kick off Sister Stamps' new Christmas releases - woo hoo! And here's my first card with Setsuna dressed up like Santa - isn't he a cutie!

I tried the center step card for the first time and it was fun and pretty simple to do. Got Shave Ice?

Shave ice is what we called it growing up on Oahu, but here in Hilo, they call it ice shave. But no matter what you call it, really fine shaved ice with good syrup is delicious! And who wouldn't want some to celebrate a birthday?

For this card I used Dandelion Design's elephant stamp from the Bubbles & Smiles cling set. I cut off the bubble he was blowing and added the yummy shave ice. I created some mountains and was even able to position the bird on the cloud paper to fit nicely into the scene. The sentiment is from Hero Arts' Sending Smiles Messages and this set is great because you have typical sentiments with nice add ons to complete your greeting.

Silhouettes are Pretty

Happy Labor Day everyone! Hope you're relaxing or doing something fun with friends and family. Because today's a holiday, I got to stay up late last night and and here's what I was up to. I used Hero Arts' Three Silhouettes stamp set and embossed the images in black. I used my Spellbinders to cut them out in ovals and backed each image with black cardstock. Then I trimmed around them to give them a slight contrasting frame. I stamped a brocade image in various colors and cut them out with Spellbinders Labels Four. It was fun choosing colors and trying out different inks for this. Using Brilliance pearlescent inks was the most stunning. I cut pennant-like pieces in black to back each image. I stamped the sentiment and adorned each girl with jewels. I absolutely love how pretty and vintage-like these images are. Above is the first image.

One of my best friends had a baby girl back in July and I got one step closer to mailing out her gift today....I made the card. Still have to wrap it and get it to the post office, but I made progress. It's such a challenge to get gifts mailed out on time these days.

I found this cute baby stamp set a while ago and finally had a reason to ink it up. Chose the sweet bunny image and put an "s" sticker on the little bundle which stands for Sienna. Sweet name! I used PTI's Turning a New Leaf stamp and die for the leaves and this is a set I got to often. Love! Hopefully I get the gift in the mail this weekend!

Sister Stamps Release Day 4 - Nobu

Welcome to day 4 and the final day of Sister Stamps September release! Four new stamps are available today at various retail stores (see Sister Stamps blog for list). Today I introduce you to Sister Stamps' first boy image, Nobu. Isn't he adorable?! I need to start by telling you I altered him a tiny bit and changed the toy in his hand to a lollipop, so see below for the actual image.

I decided to do something with a Halloween theme and created a glassine treat bag. Glassine bags are a favorite of mine - like the look and they're also somewhat nostalgic. I created the tag with some cool bat DP and a PTI tag die. I altered the toy and made it a lollipop by using an image from SU's Sweets for the Sweet and punched it out with a 1/2" circle punch. I wanted a little bling so I covered a small clothes pin with orange glitter paper and also punched out some bats from black glitter paper. Did you notice the tiny bats on the glassine? I tried stamping these bags for the first time and StazOn ink worked well. It takes a steady hand to stamp on the the slightly slippery surface, but it's worth the effort. So fun!

Sister Stamps Release Day 3 - Ayako

Thanks for stopping by for Day 3 of Sister Stamps release! Today's precious image is called Ayako! I know many of you have been waiting for the "the umbrella girl" since Jenny did some calendars with her almost a year ago. Well she'll finally be available on September 1 - she's a real doll!

For this card, I applied one of my favorite techniques using Distress Inks. I embossed the bamboo image with clear embossing powder on white cardstock. Then I distressed the background with Peeled Paint ink using a blending tool and foam pad. Simple technique - wonderful results! The PTI sentiment is actually one long sentiment, but I cut the sentiment to fit the space I needed to stamp. I'm getting braver about doing this. If you haven't tried it yet, give it a whirl -it's really fun and you can always fit the sentiment back together again. I stamped the sentiment with StazOn ink for best results on the embossed areas.

Sister Stamps Release Day 2 - Yoko

It's day 2 of Sister Stamps September release and today I'm introducing playful Yoko. As summer is coming to an end, I imagined her playing outside with her toy crane on beautiful fall day. I did a simple pop-up to create a little scene. The more I played with this image, the more I grew fond of Yoko and she has quickly become one of my favorites. This is the close up.

Christmas Came in August

I had a creative block while working on another project so I started cleaning around my craft table and stumbled upon Hero Arts' "friendly flags" set. I picked it up and thought "I should try these out as trees." I just played around and in a matter of 30 minutes, this Christmas card came together. Funny how this one was simple to finish, but I just couldn't figure out the other one. I guess that's how creative minds work sometimes.

So Fairwee Cute!

This new Fairwee Piper image (and the other little Fairwees) from Sweet November are so darn cute, they make me squeal every time I look at them. The design for this card was inspired by a distressed image of Hero Arts' "silhouette grass" I had done awhile ago. It was my starting point and ended up becoming a fairy tale-like garden scene - playful and whimsical.

Pretty & Pink

Just felt like making something simple and pretty and this was the result of my afternoon while my little guy took a nap. There were all sorts of chores to be done around the house, but I needed a quick creative fix at my craft table before attacking the "not so fun stuff." You know what I mean, right?

I inked up this floral image from SU's "Just Believe" set and it was the inspiration for the rest of the card. I paired it up with a sentiment from PTI's "Botanical Silhouette"set which worked out nicely.

Sweet Sympathy

Sympathy cards seem to always be a challenge for me because I want it to look good but I don't want it to be overstated or too busy. So with this card I tried to go for the feel of a serene garden by using butterflies, leaves and a stamp with flourishes. I kept the color palette on the quiet side with muted greens and off white but added a splash of sunshine with the yellow butterflies . Turns out I was happy with this layout and changed it up a couple more times with different sentiments.

Candy Sticks Are All the Rage!

I have jumped on the candy stick bandwagon and joined all those who are enjoying this craze! I made these for my nieces to give away at their 5th birthday party and they were pretty simple to do. I chose to use Skittles and personalized it with a photo of my nieces and "thank you" stamped on the leaves. Other supplies used were Spellbinders Blossom Three dies, SU's Blossom Petal Builder punch for leaves and a Hero Arts sentiment.

A note on the bags: I found Heiko bags to be the best deal at $2.50 for 100 bags (no seal). Ben Franklin carries self adhesive bags for about $8.99 for 100. Pineapple Cove $12.00 for 100. None give you an airtight seal so I used the Heiko bags and sealed them with tape.

Rainbow Birthday Tags

My twin nieces turned 5 this month and they wanted a rainbow themed party. My SIL asked me if I could make personalized tags for about 35 kids so this is what I came up with. I found the perfect digi images for the girls at mygrafico and matched the child's hair color to the image. I added some Stickles to the skirts, some ribbon and a small Jolee's rainbow sticker to tie it all together. The boy tags were made using PTI's Boy Basics: Truckin' It stamps and dies and Copic markers.

I find papercrafting to be most fun when doing projects for kids. I guess I like the bright fun colors and all the cute things you can do!

Take a Bow Birthday Penguin

I hope your week is going well. I got a lot of cleaning done this weekend and not only cleaned out a lot of my craft stuff, but went on to clean out my clothes closet as well. Bags of stuff are going to Goodwill. It's a good feeling!

Anyway, onto my card for today. Yes, yet another version of the shadow box card and this time I created a little stage scene. I made the curtain template myself and added Baker's Twine to create the illusion of it being tied back. The valence was was made with one of my favorite border punches (EK Success Abstract Flower). And how can you not adore this penguin from Lawn Fawn's "Critters in the Snow" with his birthday hat from Lawn Fawn's "Hats Off to You." Oh happy day!

Summer Fruits

I adore this cheery Imaginisce DP and the matching fruit stickers. I needed a thank you card so here's what I came up with. I used my PTI large doily die with cardstock for the first time and now I know why they recommend cutting with a metal shim. It didn't cut though well so I was a frustrated crafter poking out some of the finer pieces and cutting them with scissors. In the past, I cut printer paper with this die and it was fine, but cardstock is a different story. Hopefully the shim helps. The white doily is a Martha Stewart doily tag and to add a little sparkle to this card, I used Stickles on the fruit stickers.

Checkbook Critters

I took a little break for the July 4th weekend but I got my mojo back and here's what I've been up to. I wanted a new checkbook cover so I reached for my favorite Lawn Fawn set and this is what I created. These critters just make me smile. Isn't the squirrel so playful on the tire swing? Pure happiness! I had some extra puffy stickers from a fairy set and they became the perfect embellishment for the lawn.

Any fun plans for the weekend? My craft area is a mess so I'll be organizing and downsizing! Or should I say downsizing to make more room for new things (because that's what really happens, right?) Lol! Whatever your plans, have a great weekend!

Introducing Sister Stamps - Day 1 Blog Candy

Today is a special day! I am thrilled to introduce Mei Lin, the first of three new stamps to be released on July 1 by a brand new company called Sister Stamps. My CBFF (crafty BFF) Jenny and her sister Denise joined creative talents and started this new venture. I have seen Jenny working on this for months and it thrills me to no end to see this dream come true! Not only am I excited for them, but I am also excited for everyone who will now get a chance to create with these adorable and playful images. I fell in love with the images when I first saw them, but my expectations were exceeded as I colored them and saw them come to life!

50th Anniversary

One of my best friend's parents celebrated their 50th anniversary back in March. We weren't able to attend the party in California but this is the card I sent with our gift. I really struggled with this one only because of the pressure I put on myself to make a special card for such a huge milestone. So after a lot of pulling double stick tape apart and redoing things, I was finally satisfied with this end result.

Aquarium Birthday

I've been having fun playing with shadow box cards and this is another version using acetate to create an aquarium-like scene. I don't know if you can see the acetate which creates the "glass"of the aquarium. but I stamped the bubbles on the inside of the acetate with black StazOn and filled it in with Stickles. I added blue rhinestones on the outside for more sparkle. The cat is simply stamped on black cardstock, cut out and turned around so you see the back of the cat, creating a silhouette. These cards are simple card to make with many fun possibilities. Also, it flattens out to fit your standard A2 envelope.

I'm back with another shaker and this time with something a little more vintage. The focal point of this card was created with The Girl's Paperie paper which I absolutely love (Sadly they are going out of business). A Simple Hello

Sometimes a simple card can be cute, too! There are times when I need a card for a quick note and don't want a "done up" card. So here's a design I'll be duplicating in different colors to have on hand. I did the hearts with the tip of the Copic pen and the rhinestone is just enough bling to dress up this simple card!

Heart Full of Shakers

I wanted to perfect making a simple shaker card and after lots of trial and error as well as researching, I finally feel comfortable making these cards. A couple things I found helpful are the following:

1. Use 3M mounting tape. It's the sturdiest.

2. Rubbing a tiny bit of corn starch or baby powder on the rim of your mounting tape will keep your confetti and beads from sticking to the sides of your shaker.

3. Rubbing your Embossing Buddy or a used dryer sheet on your acetate before putting confetti on it, will keep the confetti from sticking to the acetate.

The girl stamp is from Dandelion Designs (Happy Wishes Set) and she normally holds a cupcake with a candle on it, but I cut off the candle and put on a cherry sticker to match the cherry background paper of the shaker. These cards are really fun create and I hope those who receive them enjoy them as well!

I decided to try making a shadow box card and found they're simple and fun to do. It gives you dimension but can also lay flat for mailing. I used Darcie's cute balloon girl and cloud images and Lawn Fawn's banner and bird. I put some Paper Glaze on the balloons but the camera didn't pick it up very well.

For the Graduate Money Holder

With Sympathy

I needed a sympathy card and here's what I came up with while my little guy was taking a nap yesterday. I started with SU's melon mambo ink and when I decided to add a couple more sprigs, I accidentally grabbed SU's regal rose. The mistake actually made it better - so funny how that happens.

Also trying to get better about decorating the inside of my cards so here's my attempt at this one.

Critters on the Farm

Lawn Fawn just came out with a Critters on the Farm stamp set and I grabbed one as soon as it came in. Thought the animals were really cute and I couldn't wait to ink them up. I put together this diorama card and love the "3D-ness" of it. I recently taught a class on this card and realized how fun they are to make.

This is my Mother's Day card design for this year. It has PTI written all over it and I couldn't be happier with their stamps and dies. I wanted to create some kind of bouquet of flowers and this is what transpired.

We will miss the big Mother's Day family gathering on Oahu, but I'm looking forward to brunch at Kilauea Lodge with my husband and son. To all the moms out there - hope you have a special Mother's Day!

Graduation Owl Gift Card Holders

Graduation is coming up so I made these graduation gift card holders using SU's cute owl punch. I gave the owl some wings by using a scalloped circle punch and I added a graduation cap in celebration of the occasion. I got a bit carried away and did 3 different versions. It was fun to play with different paper combinations and I love this owl punch!

Have a "Fairy" Happy Birthday

I made this card for my cousin Candice's birthday and finally inked up Fairy Doodle's adorable stamps. Oh how sweet they are! I can't remember exactly where I ordered them from but I know I got them from a company in the UK. I also used the new Magnolia DooHickey Romantic Lace die at the bottom of the card. Really love these cute hearts!

It's Merrie Monarch week here in Hilo so the town is buzzing. I was lucky to be offered a ticket for Saturday so I will enjoy the final night of the hula competition with a friend.

Spring Baskets

I was supposed to post this yesterday and time got away from me as I spent the day with the family coloring eggs, hiding and finding eggs and cooking to celebrate the holiday. So instead of calling this post Easter baskets, I'm calling it Spring baskets. I was inspired by a post I saw on October Afternoon's blog and I'd like to say I tried my own version of their basket but I pretty much cased it! Made a few of these for friends and love how sweet and charming they turned out.

I made a couple of Easter pop-up cards to send to my son's grandparents. I used the same Chi Chi Memories digi bunny from yesterday's post and replaced the bunny's face with my son's face. I won't lie and say this was simple to make - it wasn't hard, but really more time consuming. I'm happy with the final result and enjoyed building the different layers. This project was again inspired by my CBFF, Jenny and a class she recently taught. Thanks again Jenny!

Easter Treats

I was inspired to make these treat holders after my CBFF, Jenny made these for us Island Scrapbooking girls for Girl's Day (she also taught a couple classes on this). I was anxious to use the digi bunnies from Chi Chi Memories I bought after Easter last year and have been waiting a whole year to use them. They are the most adorable bunnies ever and I'll share another project I did with them tomorrow. The third treat box was created with another digi image I've had for awhile from cc Designs. I think I made about 10 of these and filled the boxes with chocolates and Hello Kitty hard candies. Sure had fun creating different little scenes. Thanks for the inspiration Jenny and Happy TGIF!

I wasted no time opening up the new set of Verve "Chicks Rule" stamps I got in the mail. This was the first card I made and the chickies are cute cute cute! Did some embossing on velum for the sentiment and love the look!

Watercolor Distress

I taught a class on Distress Inks and one of the techniques I demonstrated was how to paint on watercolor paper. The flower for this card was created using this technique. I embossed the flower image with black embossing powder and then painted it using a combination of reds and pinks. I stamped the leaves directly on the designer paper and colored them in with Copics. It surprisingly creates an opaque look and you can see a glimmer of the paper's design showing through the leaves. The leaves were then covered with Diamond Glaze to give it some dimension.

I made this banner as a sample for Island Scrapbooking using the new Spellbinders "pennant" dies and OMG I loved it so much, I bought more paper to make one for myself. The coordinating dies are great and the new Prima Marketing "madeline collection" papers she brought in are beautiful (thanks Jenny)! I punched 2" circles for the centers and sponged the edges with antique linen Distress Ink. The letters were cut from Sizzix's "roundabout alphabet."

A Banner Thank You

I recently celebrated a birthday so I've been making thank you cards like crazy for the many thoughtful and generous gifts people have given me. Maybe I should have kept the cards simpler and mass produced a bunch of the same card, but I get bored that way. I usually end up not finishing what I started because it's too repetitious. Anyone else feel that way, too?

Anyway this is one of the cards I made using a few things I've had, but opened for the first time for this card. Banners are simply fun and I used PTI's banner dies in conjunction with Cosmo Cricket's "Early Bird" DP. The sentiment is from a great PTI set called "Say it with Style" and I colored it in with Copics. I used EK Success' new "Abstract Flower" border punch and it has quickly become my new favorite!

They are so darn cute and I love the idea of the animals (elephant, giraffe and monkey) hanging out of or over different things. A cute duck was released this month and it could easily be a nice addition to this set!

Back in the Saddle with Strawberries

Hello there Blogland! Sorry for the long absence. Our family went on vacation to California and although I retuned home and starting crafting right away, it's taken me some time to get back into the swing of blogging. But here I am on this very sunny Tuesday, ready for my first post in over a month. So let's get right to it.

This project is one of my favorite gifts to give and I made this explosion box gift card holder for my dear friend Kelli's birthday. She has a thing for strawberries so I based the theme of the box on this cheery fruit. I love the impact that the mechanics of box makes but it's even better when you see the four gift cards. Now who wouldn't want four gift cards, right?! Four gift cards takes this present over the top, but if you don't want to give someone four gift cards, you can fill some of the pockets with tags instead.

Also, I was asked about instructions to my last post (coloring the polar bear with Distress Inks) so here's a link that might be helpful.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

You can tell I'm a mom of a toddler when the titles of my blog entries often reflect children's book titles (like this one) or lines from children's songs.

Anyway, when this bear was first released by cc Designs, I have to admit the first thing I thought was, "he's really cute, but that's a lot of coloring I'd have to do." So I didn't buy it. But recently, I learned how to color an image with Distress Inks and a blending tool. That's when I bought this stamp and can now color him quickly. I love the effect this technique gives to the image and of course, I love how fast it can be done. I used Vintage Photo Distress Ink here to make him a brown bear, but I've also tried using Antique Linen and it makes a really cute dirty polar bear (since polar bears aren't really pure white, right?).

I am over the moon for this cardinal and it's made from SU's Two-Step Bird Punch. I believe Beth Hopkins is the creative mind behind this and I adore it! I couldn't find a blog for her but wanted to make sure I gave her credit. The crown and black mask of the cardinal are simply made by cutting the tip of the wing. So clever and I'll definitely be making more of these!

I just got my hands on this sweet deer stamp and inked it up right away. Didn't really notice this stamp before but when it went on red tag sale and 50% off that, it made me think, "I can do something cute with that!" Lol! I'm behind on mailing a couple birthday gifts so this will go with one of the gifts. I made the mountains with the negative part of a punched out circle and used it as a template to sponge on the green ink. I love the kind of splotchy look it created.

Octopus Octopus Swimming in the Ocean

Happy Day After Valentine's everyone! My husband and I celebrated last week with dinner at my favorite restaurant. We avoid eating out on Valentine's Day and Mother's Day to avoid the crowds. My son and I spent part of yesterday making Valentine's crafts and he gave them to my husband and our friend who is staying with us this week. So cute and fun!

Anyway, today's card features the most adorable octopus from Lawn Fawn's "Critters in the Sea." I tried out the round metal tag for the first time and I like the look of this embellishment. Also gotta love all the musical note papers out there now. This colorful one is so cheery. And I just realized that the piece of my tape backing got in this photo so sorry about that...it wasn't part of my design. Lol!

Happy Valentine's Day

I'm back with more of these envelope-like bags. I used Michelle Wooderson's wonderful idea to sew these paper bags and this was my project for my son's teachers and friends this Valentine's. I did a couple different versions and filled the pockets with candies and McDonald's sundae gift certificates. This idea is a keeper and I'm storing it in the back of my mind for other occasions.

Happy TGIF!

I wanted to experiment with doilies and Distress inks so I gave this heart doily some color by rubbing Distress inks onto the doily with the blending tool. It was quick and easy and it's a fun way to change up a plain white doily. The flower was created by mixing felt and paper together and I added my favorite laser cut leaves from Island Scrapbooking.

Welcome to the new look of Crafty Buzz! I'd like to say I redesigned my blog as a way to start off the new year, but really what happened was Shabby Blogs changed all their codes so I had to redo it. Anywho, onto my card. I saw this card on someone's blog a long time ago and was sent to My Pink Pajamas for the instructions. Bag of Love

This is a Valentine's project I did for Island Scrapbooking using Lawn Fawn's Critters in the Burbs. I love this stamp set! I folded a flat paper bag about 2/3rds of the way up and sewed three sides of the bag to create two pockets. Then I folded the flap down and created a band that slides on/off the bag. I used a custom laser cut "love" word that Island Scrapbooking created for this project. You can fill this bag with all sorts of goodies and gift certificates. So sweet and fun!

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. We had a great Christmas and New Years and spent time at home and on Oahu celebrating with family and friends. My poor blog has been neglected for weeks due to all the craziness around here, but I'm happily crafting again and have some things to share. Today's card features Hero Art's new banner stamps and as you probably know, banners are quite popular these days. I love the whole banner concept and all you can do with them. Here I stamped the different banner triangles on various designer papers, cut them out and "strung" them atop the card. Plain ol' fun!

Tag Swap - December

These are the tags I made for my December Tag Swap partner ManLe, owner of Pineapple Cove. The task was to make 6 of the same tags but I couldn't decide which one to do, so I did 2 different tags (3 of each). For the flower tag, I cut, rolled and clear embossed the flowers to give it a nice gloss. It was a bit time consuming, but the results were worth the effort. I watched Jennifer McGuire's tutorial and learned how to do this. The other fun element of this tag was stamping on felt. Haven't done it much but I will use it more often because I love the texture felt gives to any project. StazOn ink seems to work the best on felt.

The bunny tag was such a delight to create just because this Lawn Fawn stamp is so stinkin' cute! I also used PTI's ticket die for the "to" and "from" and this die is always fun to work with.

Hope you're enjoying the holidays. I'm almost done with my shopping and this weekend will be my weekend to bake. Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without baking. LOL! Should be fun!

OCS - Holiday

This month's One Card Swap theme is "Holiday" and you could choose to make any kind of holiday card you want. I decided to go with Christmas and make this for my swap partner Lynn Lau.

I saw this shaker box card idea on Suzanne Dean's blog and had to try it out. Never attempted a shaker box before but this made me put my fears aside and give it a whirl. And with Lili of the Valley's "Decorating the Tree" stamp, it was a pure delight to create! The shaker box window was created with a Magnolia window stamp and the outdoor background is a retired image from Elzybells. I included Martha Stewart snow glitter and some beads and the window is dressed with a garland and flower boxes made from shamrock green and russet red Flower Soft mixed together. A tip about Flower Soft: you can buy some pre-made mixes like the Christmas mix, but if you buy the colors separately and mix them yourself, you can use them later individually. Had I purchased the Christmas mix, I would be stuck using it only at Christmas. To create the silhouette of the cat, I stamped a regular image of a cat, cut it out and flipped it over.

I can't express enough how much I am lovin' my Lawn Fawn stamps sets. They are the cutest images to work with and they stamp so nicely. Happy Turkey Day to you! I hope you're enjoying the feast and festivities of this Thanksgiving day!

This was my simple Thanksgiving project this year. When I saw this Sizzix turkey die, I couldn't resist it in all its cuteness! Then when I saw how someone turned it into a peacock (Michele's idea) I was thrilled to know I could use the die year round. I used SU's sentiment from Day of Gratitude and distressed the edges a little. Now that I look at this card two weeks after I made it, I think I should have added some pumpkins next to the peacock. Oh well, that's what happens when you send your cards out right after you make them. Sometimes it's beneficial to put your cards down for a little while because then you come back to them with a fresh perspective.

Happy Birthday Jenny

My crafting buddy Jenny or CBFF and she calls me, celebrated her birthday last week. I took her out for brunch at Kilauea Lodge (yum!) on Sunday and we had fun "girl" time! We talked and ate and talked and ate! And we even did a little shopping after that! Jenny is an incredibly generous and kind friend and I hope she had a great birthday!

I recently discovered Lawn Fawn stamps and have fallen in love with them. Their cute and whimsical style are so up my alley. I'm thrilled with how well they stamp and I love their versatility and simplicity. I used the bunny for the card and paired it with PTI's matstack 1 die and coordinating stamp. I wanted to jazz up the envelope so I used the squirrel, hop marks and "yay" from the same stamp set and tied it together with the card's matching DP. Creating this was pure joy!
